Triathlons, Mario Kart, and more in October’s Employee Spotlight with Andrew Hill.

  • Full Name: Andrew David Hill
  • Job Title: IT Consultant
  • Practice: IT & Operations
  • When did you join Exsilio? October 2014. Just celebrated my 2 year anniversary!
  • Hometown: Toronto, Ontario, Canada
  • Alma Mater: Platt College
  • What was your major? My associates degree was in Computer Networking.
  • How would you explain your role here at Exsilio to a stranger? **Straightens up** In laymens terms I am a “Computer Guy”. I help support Exsilio’s IT infrastructure. I also support the infrastructure of our clients (computers, servers, networking).
  • What does a typical work day look like for you? A typical work day for me involves supporting our IT infrastructure, fulfilling client requests, a few games of ping pong, and reading up on technology news to stay informed on new developments. I try to learn new technology on a daily basis.
  • What aspects of your job do you enjoy the most? What I enjoy the most is helping people solve problems. Also, coming up with ideas to help colleagues and clients work more efficiently using technology and computers. Finally, the satisfaction of knowing that what I do helps someone get a job done. Kind of like how a mechanic knows their work helps someone get from place to place in their car.
  • What is the most valuable lesson you have learned so far at Exsilio? Something that I have learned throughout my career is that people do not want excuses, they want results. They do not want to hear why something is broken, just that it is being fixed. The most valuable lesson I have learned working here at Exsilio would be from the fact that I get to work alongside developers every day. It helps for a better collaboration.
  • What makes a great Exsilio employee? Definitely need a good attitude. That is a must. Also be open to collaborating on ideas with others.
  • What has been your favorite experience at Exsilio? Probably working on one of our new client’s projects that has given me a way to showcase my skills as a consultant. It is fulfilling to work on a project that allows me to utilize my entire gamut of skills (tying in the technical side with the business side).
  • What are some of your hobbies/interests outside of work? I like to produce music utilizing a bunch of different instruments. Triathlons are something I also love to do. They are a challenge and help me stay in shape.
  • What is your favorite activity to do in the Orange County area? Catch some tasty waves!! I live about a block from the beach and love to surf any chance I get. My favorite surf spot is 46th street in Newport.
  • Food that you can’t live without? Butter, Bacon, Sausage, gas station hotdogs (not kidding), and mayonnaise. All of them combined together! Just kidding, but I really do love all of those. And throw coffee in there for good measure, even though I do not eat it :)
  • If you were to plan your dream vacation, where would you be going? I actually have my dream vacation planned and leave in a few weeks. I am spending 2 weeks in Thailand and Bali. Can’t wait for this adventure!
  • Favorite Game (board or video )? Probably the original Mario Kart for Super Nintendo, and the GTA Series. I guess I like driving in games!

Any thoughts?
