  • Full Name: James Leo Burk III
  • Job Title: Manager of Program Management
  • Practice: Program Management
  • When did you join Exsilio? September 2015
  • Hometown: I grew up in Kent, Ohio.
  • Alma Mater: University of Florida (Go Gators!)
  • What was your major? Computer Science
  • How would you explain your role here at Exsilio to a stranger? I oversee all of the management of software development projects that Exsilio takes on.
  • What does a typical work day look like for you? Lots of meetings!! Lots of coordination of development activities and stakeholder check points.
  • What aspects of your job do you enjoy the most? I love being able to solve problems and shipping software. I love to learn new things, or learning how to fix something for the first time is what excites me to come to work. Even though I am not a developer here, I love to learn new ways to do things technically.
  • What is the most valuable lesson you have learned so far at Exsilio? That is a tough one! I think a great lesson has been around team work. When everyone has the tools they need to accomplish something, they can really shine. When they are confused about what the next step is, they are not able to be as effective. It is so important that everyone is clear on goals and is swimming towards that. This is when really great things can happen.
  • What makes a great Exsilio employee? Someone that understands all of our fundamental values and lives them. One fundamental that really stands out to me is “Own the Problem”. This is so important here at Exsilio because it helps to make sure that the stakeholder is happy with us. A great employee should always be evaluating if they are doing something the best way possible. They should always be looking for ways to improve.
  • What has been your favorite experience at Exsilio? We were able to turn around a prototype in a very short amount of time for one of our clients. It felt great to build something in two weeks that was a TON of work but able to ship on time.
  • What are some of your hobbies/interests outside of work? I am a huge of advocate of space exploration. I volunteer for a group called the Mars Society. We are working on prototyping out how people will live and work on Mars.
  • What is your favorite activity to do in Seattle? I love to watch Seahawks games!!
  • Food that you can’t live without? My favorite meal is Chicken Parmesan.
  • If you were to plan your dream vacation, where would you be going? My dream vacation is in Fiji. I have been there already, but it was amazing. Or I would go to Egypt to see all of the Pyramids. I think that would be really cool.
  • Favorite Game (board or video)? I really like to play the video game Civilization.
